So I am no Anderson Cooper, but his quote came into my head when I started to reflect on how my week went last week. Usually as I start my 3rd full week of the school year, I can see small group instruction on the horizon. This year?... not so much! And, if I am "keeping them honest" the only thing missing last week from my station time was a man swinging from a vine wearing a loin cloth.
It! Was! A! Jungle!
It hurts to say it out loud, but it is also a little liberating. Some years are just like that! I have a group of wonderful kiddos, but they are still not convinced that the rules needed to be adhered to.
So I made some anchor charts. (I am putting these together as a unit... thus "Coming Soon").
and I took the stations work board off the wall. This got everyone's attention on Friday.
I told them that we would try them again when we were ready. During my time that says "Literacy Stations" and "Math Stations" we will be building routines, anchor charts, and expectations. I want the learning to continue, so we will do the activities together as a whole group. I suspect by Wednesday they will be begging for stations and by then end of the week I will have the class right where I want them. We can't go forward until this mountain is climbed.
I am glad to have finished this project this weekend! Whew!

Here are my lesson plans.
Have a great week!
