Organization Binders

Those sweet babies have a hard time getting organized!  I have used these binders for a few years now and I have been asked to make different themes.   Since I have been banished to the basement with the recovering pup... I have had time to work on these.

I have been asked how I use the behavior calendars... I have the students  "color their day" at the end of the day. This takes a bit to training at the beginning of the year, but they quickly catch on. I ask those who had a "yellow" or "red" day to bring their binder to me.  I can jot a quick note on their binder.   I ask parents to initial each day and the calender stays in their binder.   At the end of the month, I collect the calendars.  This is really handy information when you are looking for behavioral trends or progress monitoring.

So far I have made:
SPACE (update from last year)
Do you have any special requests?

  2. My son did this everyday in kindergarten last year. He loved coloring in the color everyday. This year they used 7 colors on their behavior system, and yellow was actually better than green! It took me a while to get used to that :)

    1. I know...everyone has a different system, so I made it editable... Then you can type your system on the August page and it will fill in for the rest of the pages. Waa-la!

  6. HI Deedee! These are great and I am thinking about using a binder like this next year. How about just a generic theme like polka dots or chevron? Something teachers who don't do whole class themes could use. Thank you for creating these and making them editable!

  10. Bees, bees, bees! Also rainbows (for a coworker- she's doing a really cute CandyLand theme)! I also really like Freckleteacher's idea for the chevron or polka dot theme; I'd do yellow or black and white and my coworker could do a variety of bright colors for her rainbow theme. Thanks gals!

I'm also liking the idea of a simple polkadot or chevron theme -- I'm doing a hot pink & lime green color scheme in my class and would love a chevron in those colors!!
    Thank you!

  13. I'm so debating doing the binders next year vs. folders. I just worry about managing them.....like how do you empty and go through 20+ (3-ring) binders a day? If I decide to do it...I'm so buying your jungle pack. LOVE!

    1. Erin, I make them go through them. During the first month or two, I will have daily "Binder check!" moments. They all pull out their binders and put them on their desks. They all look to be sure all the notes are out and papers from the previous day are out. This takes about 3-5 minutes. I give my little speech about how it is so important to be responsible...yada, yada... Then the months after that I just ask, "Are there any notes for me?" and that triggers those to check.

I have 95% of my class color their day. Only those who had a issue bring their binder to me (usually just 1 or 2 kiddos... sometimes 0...WHOOT)!

    2. Do you have a spot for them to put their notes and stuff for you? Once they are good at taking their stuff out of their binders, do you have them do it in the morning when they get to school?

  14. I love the binders, our whole school uses them. I am doing a puppy theme next year, but would happily use a more generic chevron or polka dot theme. I LOVE your products!

  18. What size binder do you use? Also, how do you fit all their papers to go home in their binder each day? Do you have pictures of a binder you have used in the past as a model? I think it might be a lot easier than the folders. Do you purchase the folders or do the parents?

    1. I purchase 1/2" folders from Costco. Last year it was about $8 for 6. The parents reimburse me when school begins.

The students put the papers in their binders. On busy days, they might have 10-12 pages, most days it is more like 1 or 2.

Yes, the inside of the binders are photographed in the product. I will see if I have some old photos...be right back!

    3. Thank you for the link. I have a few more questions. Do you include the labels for the folders in the packet? And how do you go about asking the parents to pay for the binders? I always feel that is a sticky subject, yet I really don't have the money to pay for all of that.

    4. Yes, the labels are included in the packet.

The parents receive a supply list and it is listed on there. Parents say they prefer it!

  22. We are going to do a Rodeo Rockstar theme this year. Our school's mascot is the Mustang but we are trying to keep the theme of First Grade Rocks....so we combined the two and are the Rodeo Rockstars. Would love it soooo much if you had a binder for this.
    Thanks in advance Jen

  36. Hi Deedee, I will be just be getting back into teaching next year after a 5 year break to stay at home with my babies. I would really love to have one of your organizational binder bundles to use in my classroom. However, when I click on one of the links above it takes me to the TPT website (which I am so grateful that I found) and I can't locate this item on there. Are they still available? Thank you!
