We had two snow days last week! Can I get an A-MEN?
So my lesson plans are a little different next week but I am leaving my stations the same. We expect more snow this week and I suspect we will be out again. Brace yourself... this post is LONG!
Anyhow, during these snow days, I have been preparing for this!
I am presenting one day! Yay! and Oy!
Are anyone of you going? If so, do you own pom-poms that you can bring??
Anyhoo... in preparing for this conference I have been scanning writing samples and reviewing video. If you ever start to feel like you know what you *might* be doing... video tape yourself... so humbling!
During the video tapes, I started to REALLY listen in to my language (and the child break dancing in the background). I asked myself, "Am I teaching with precision?" "Am I concise?"
Here is my challenge to you: Take your iPhone out the next time you confer with a student. There is a little voice recorder on it (they have one for Android too). Record a few of your conferences. Listen to it. Where do you need to add precision? Will you let me know if you try it?
Onward!
After I recovered from my low of seeing my man-hands on video, I remembered this awesome piece and smiled. He has garnered a lot of knowledge on how books work.
Here is another one that made me smile (hmm...I wonder why?)
I assure you the feeling is very mutual my sweet friend!
Speaking of Dojo [you can read my post about it here]... we are using these cute cards as our rewards.
I bought this at the beginning of the year and we LOVE them!!!

Are you still with me?
Here are my lesson plans!
Have a healthy and happy week!
Link up your visual plans!

I never thought of recording a conference with a student. What an excellent idea, and a great way to self-reflect!
ReplyDeletePS- We had 2 snow days last week, and it looks like more will be in my future (Kansas).

Love the idea of recording--thanks
ReplyDeleteI have often used voice memos to record my kids reading. It really helps them see what area of fluency they can improve. I have never thought of doing it for myself--what a great idea! I will definitely be trying it out!

I always make very detailed plans, but have never posted them on my blog before. I hope what I posted it okay. :) Stephanie
ReplyDeleteGirl! I am still laughing at the man hands comment from the top! I TOTALLY have man hands syndrome. I refuse to hold anything in any picture and I always hide my GIANT man hands! They are bigger than my hubs and his nails are much prettier. Wait...that's because I have NO nails at all! Anyway...Love the writing progression and I would really love to come see you! I am sure I would learn a TON! Best of luck! I am cheering way down here in Texas!
ReplyDeleteDee Dee, I loved reading your kids writing workshop stories! I love how you created the paper with a pattern around the sides! I wish I had lesson plans to link up...something I have to work on! Have a great time presenting! Melissa
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I am always so impressed with your students' writing. <3
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to meet you at the Pa K Conference! I will be happy to bring Pom poms- hopefully I'll remember! Lol
ReplyDeleteI <3 your blog! I'm hoping one day to make my plans as beautiful as yours! See you soon!
Yay!!! Please don't leave me hanging...come up and say hi!!!

I would love to be at that conference! Good luck! I had to tape myself teaching once for a program I was applying for and it was very eye-opening. I learned I can have a very annoying voice! Never thought to do it with conferences though-great idea!

I told my principal that she should just video tape me for my eval. That way when we were going over my lesson I could watch myself and see exactly what she saw.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it would also be a great motivation to get me to the gym :)

A-men! I wish!!
ReplyDeleteI also wish I lived closer to my mom! She is in PA, my nephew is in Harrisburg, and I have a wedding and Science Fair I can't get out of to fly cross country to see my mom, and attend your conference. Darn it all!! I will make it one day. Just not this time. :(

Have fun in PA! My husband granparents live there and we visit every other summer! You are only 15 minutes away from Hershey, PA! Make sure you visit Chocolate World! They have chocolate that is so fresh because it comes straight from the factory! Trust me you'll thank me later, well maybe your waist line won't thank me! LOL! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteGood luck presenting! Where in Missouri are you? I am in Ofallon and we had 2 snow days as well. :)

EEEEK!! I am sooo excited about this linky because I just made my first visual plans ever! Thank you so much for inspiring me with your amazing plans. I have man hand syndrome too, but only in pictures. It always leaves me wondering if they actually look like that in real life and I am just in denial haha I am so jelly of your snow day :( I grew up in Ballwin, MO and I miss the snow all the time. Florida is H-O-T hot, and not in the good way. Congrats on presenting, you will be fabulous, because you can't help it, you just are! Thanks again for the super fun linky!

Hello Mrs. Willis,
ReplyDeleteI just found your site and I LOVE it! Your visual lesson plans have been so helpful to a new Kindergarten teacher like me. I had a question about your Reading Workshop -- what do you do during this time and where do you get the lesson plans? Thanks so much! I will be checking back on your site often!
Thanks,
