Peek at my Week-Spiders and a Freebie!

First I want to tell you a few things that  I'm pumped about. Last week I had three lovely, lovely ladies visit my classroom. They came on their DAY OFF to see if I was a big fat faker, my class in action... HA!   It was so fun to spend the day with people who are as passionate about teaching as I am!  Thank you girls!!!

This is an open invitation... come and visit us!  We would love to have you!

Speaking of visiting!   This week I will be at the Missouri Early Learning Conference
 (listening... not speaking... WHEW!)
I would love to meet up with any of you who are going!!!

I am super excited to see Matt Glover for the first time and Debbie Diller for the ump-teenth time!

Also, this week, we will be launching these two new units!   Kim's unit will take the students through the process of talking about characters, settings, and other story elements...SMART unit!
Our Unit 3 will introduce the students to procedural texts. OH!  BOY!   I actually started this unit on Friday and they. do. not. know. this. genre.   However, I know that if I trust the process, I will see wonderful gains. I also think this type of writing will help the students write in a sequentially during other genres.

Here are my lessons for next week.

I made a little Spider FREEBIE for you all.  It has 1 literacy and 2 math station activities!

Have a great week!   Hang tough on Wednesday!!!

  6. I don't know how the unit you and Deanna flows, but one thing that always helps my firsties write how-to books is to make the movie in their mind first, then sketch the pictures, and then add words last. It's such a fun unit!

    1. I am really lucky... My room mothers spoil me and plans the entire event! Yippee!!!! I just have to supply the kiddos, they do the rest!

    2. That is great! How do you organize the room moms?!

    3. I don't have to. Our parent organization does. They help select a "head room mom." They put it all together. They take care of our Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day parties. They also take care of our end-of-the-year picnic. They spoil me. I know many schools to not have this luxury.

When I was in San Diego, we did not have room moms at all.

  9. I was so excited to learn that you had visitors at your school. I follow your blog very closely, and love it by the way! A fellow teacher and I would LOVE to come and observe your amazing classroom sometime. We, too, live in Missouri and I don't think we are too far away. If this could be a possibility, please email me at torr@zizzers.org.

  10. Hi Deedee! I just found your blog! WOW!! This is my 15th year teaching, 1st in K. Our school system went to full day this year and I was asked to try it. I love K, but am overwhelmed. When I found your site this weekend it was like a breath of fresh air (hope and help). I was wondering if you post your lesson plan outline every week? If so, do you know if there is anyway I can go back and see past weeks. I was hoping by seeing them it would really help me next year with pacing at the beginning. We are a one section school. Not being able to share ideas and pacing with a "neighbor" is difficult. I am so glad I found you!
    Thanks for all you do:)
