Supporting Independence in Math Stations

So I was thinking about how I want my students to be independent in their math stations.  One question I usually get with my number cards is how I want the students to use the cards (they use the same cards 4 different ways)... Hmmm...  What would Debbie Diller do?  "I Can charts"... click on the image to get your FREE copy.

I made these to go with my Halloween Math Work Stations, but they would work for any other stations.

I also made one for my Calendar Journals.  Here is my sample, but you will want to make one with a picture of your own calendar.  This is just to "INSPIRE" you.

Here is the link to Erin's WON.DER.FUL Calendar Journals

I just loaded this to TpT!
Whew!  I'm going to put my feet up now.

  1. What a great idea! Do you include these cards in all your TPT items?!

  2. Hi Jessica,

I have included them my recent Roll, Say, Keep items. I want to go back and add them to my math station items... It is on my list of things to do...

  3. Hi Deedee,
I love your calendar journal idea. I don't see any other posts about it under your "labels" tabs, but I could have sworn you blogged about it before. Can you point me to that post? Or am I confused? If you haven't posted before, can you share some additional ideas about your journals. Last year was the first year I attempted them, and my students LOVED them. I'm looking for more ideas!
    Thanks,
    Suzanne

  4. Hi Suzanne... I just added the link to this post. I should have done that earlier. As far as my Daily Math Journals? I have the products loaded on my TpT store. Right now you will find the August/September prompts and also the October prompts. Let me know if you can't find them (but they should come right up on the first page).

  5. Love your "I can" charts! What a great addition to your math station activities-I am all about anything that fosters student independence! Debbie Diller is so wonderfully positive in her approach. Sometimes what I think my students need are some "I can't" charts-like I can't stamp my partners clothes or I can't chew on the game cards! Math stations are a constant work in progress!
