Here is my small group area:
On top of the shelf with drawers: Each group has their own drawer (see pictures below for drawer contents).
Middle shelf: My classroom library is massive and students can borrow books from there, but I like them to have several books in their "take-home" book bag that is on their reading level. So in addition to the book they do with me in our small group, they self-select another book from one of these three bins.
Bottom shelf: Bin for my small group math lessons.
Blue tub: White board, markers, magnetic letters (in the fishing tackle container).
Conferring notes can be tricky. I have created a conferring notes form that may help you. This is really designed around the emergent reader... but you can get the idea.

Thank you for the reading tips! I am desperately trying to get my 'act' together this year, as I have been out of kindergarten for 4 years, yikes!!!
ReplyDeleteI read that book last year and I am so glad I did. I ended up moving my whole guided reading area and really loved the organization tools she gave.
ReplyDeleteI really like the way your conferring notes are layed out - thank you for sharing this!
